The World DanceSport Federation was founded in 1957 in Wiesbaden, Germany, under the name of the International Council of Amateur Dancers.
Its mission is to develop, regulate and administer DanceSport which includes rock n roll, boogie woogie, breaking, disco dance, hip hop, standard and Latin dances.
The first WDSF World DanceSport Games were held in Chinese Taipei in September 2013.
Shawn Tay became President in November 2018 after already serving as Secretary General, First Vice-President and VicePresident for the sports over a 21-year period.
Breaking the mould
An urban dance style which originated in the mid-1970s in the Bronx borough of New York City. The earliest innovators were Puerto Rican and African-American youths.
Since then, breaking has developed into a global art form intertwining elements of music, dance and athleticism.
