Guoliang Liu made his Olympic debut in 1996 and became a double Olympic champion. He claimed the singles gold medal triumphing over compatriot Tao Wang, and with teammate Lin Lu, he earned the doubles Olympic title. Four years later in Sydney, Liu claimed the singles bronze medal, and with teammate Linghui Kong, he earned silver in the doubles, becoming the most decorated male table tennis athlete in the history of the Olympic Games.
