A height of 6m was considered unattainable in pole vaulting, Sergey Bubka cleared this height for the first time in 1985. Bubka claimed his only gold medal at the 1988 Games with a vault of 5.90m, four years later he failed to qualify for the final at the Barcelona 1992 Olympics. However, he improved his own record, setting his best and final world record with a vault of 6.14m in 1994, a record that he still holds today.
