At the 1924 Paris Games, Paavo Nurmi claimed the 1500m and the 5000m Olympic title, a feat that was considered impossible because the races were ran only an hour apart. He became the 1st athlete ever to win 5 gold medals at a single Olympics (1500m, the 3,000m team event, the 5,000m, and the two cross-country events). Nurmi captured a total of 12 medals during his Olympic career (9 gold and 3 silver medals) becoming one of only 4 athletes to win 9 gold medals. Paavo Nurmi (FIN) - Athletics - Paris 1924
