After a close semi-final contest, decided on the last arrow and by a simple two-point difference, Simon Fairweather had made it to the final. The 30 year-old Australian archer, who had been declared an Australian sports promise 9 years earlier, now had the chance to win the Olympic gold medal in his home country.

And he didn’t disappoint the fans. Keeping his cool and using the support from fellow Australians to his advantage, Fairweather delivered a strong performance and became the first Australian to win an Olympic gold medal in archery.
