    Art and sport: Pierre de Coubertin’s vision is just as relevant today!

    Following the initiative of Pierre de Coubertin, who wanted to combine “muscles and mind” at the Games, seven editions, from 1912 to 1948, included Olympic events in painting, sculpture, literature, music and architecture. After these were dropped, the cultural programmes created for the Games successfully continued the vision of the man who revived the Games.

    IOC initiates International Safeguarding Officer in Sport Certificate

    As part of its ongoing efforts to promote athletes’ safety and wellbeing, the Executive Board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) today approved the establishment of the “International Safeguarding Officer in Sport Certificate”. The course leading to certification is set to commence in September 2021. This is a first of its kind because there is currently no certificate or minimum standard of education or training for safeguarding officers in sport on an international level.

    IF Gender Equality Webinar Series opens with sessions on governance and electoral processes

    Since 2015, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Federations (IFs) have participated in an annual forum with a view to closing the gender gap on and off the field of play. With the 5th IF Gender Equality Forum cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a series of six online sessions opened yesterday, with the first two intended to increase female representation in governing bodies and improve women’s representation in decision-making positions.
