On 15 February 1932, Eddie Eagan became the first and only person to win gold at the Summer and Winter Games
As a pusher in the four-man bobsleigh team spearheaded by pilot Billy Fiske, Edward Eagan won the gold medal with the USA I team in the final event of the Lake Placid 1932 Winter Games. Twelve years earlier, as a boxer, he had been crowned Olympic champion in the light heavyweight competition at Antwerp 1920. Today marks the anniversary of one man’s extraordinary achievement. -

Tennis aces serve up a spectacle at Rio 2016
Great Britain’s Andy Murray completed a successful defence of the men’s singles title, while Monica Puig produced a shock in the women’s singles to win Puerto Rico’s first ever Olympic gold medal. Rafael Nadal collected his second Olympic gold as he and Marc Lopez clinched the men’s doubles, while Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina of Russia scooped gold in the women’s doubles, and American pair Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jack Sock did likewise in the mixed doubles. -
Women’s doubles gold for Russians as US pair take mixed honours
On the final day of the Rio 2016 tennis tournament, Russia’s Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina beat Swiss duo Martina Hingis and Timea Bacsinszky to win gold in the women’s doubles. Meanwhile, American pair Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jack Sock got the better of compatriots Venus Williams and Rajeev Ram to top the mixed doubles podium. -
