    Marit Bjorgen of Norway skis to victory in the Women’s Individual Sprint with a time of 3:39.2. The skiers navigate their way through qualifiers, quarterfinals and semifinals to set up a field of six competitors for the final. Polish star Justyna Kowalczyk and injured Petra Majdic of Slovenia aren’t strong enough to hold off Bjorgen through the final corner and straight away. Marit Bjorgen wins by a full second.

    Snowboarding legend and superstar Shaun White (USA) delights the crowd landing the first ever Double McTwist 1260 (Tomahawk). The “flying tomato”, as he is known in the snowboarding world, secured the Olympic snowboarding Gold Medal after his first run, but beat that score on his victory run scoring 48.4 out of 50. Teammate Scotty Lago won the Bronze with a 42.8, and Finland’s Peetu Piiroinen won the Olympic snowboarding half-pipe Silver Medal with an outstanding performance.

    Hannah Kearney of the USA takes the gold medal with a tally of 26.63 points. She duels with hometown favorite Jennifer Heil and puts in a strong final run with a back flip on her first jump and a standing 360 twist on her second. Kearney impresses the judges and scores best in the air, on the turns and in speed. Heil takes silver with 25.69 points and American Shannon Bahrke earns bronze with 25.43.

    Speed Skating Women 1500m Final Vancouver 2010 World Record – Irene Wust

    Irene Wust of the Netherlands powers to win gold and set a new world record in the women’s 1500m speed skating. Japan’s Nao Kodaira has what it takes to post a world record time of 1:58.20 early on but the ice is fast and Martina Sablikova of the Czech Republic clocks a time of 1:57.96, only to be bettered by Canadian Kristina Groves with 1:57.14. In the last grouping, Wust lays down the final world record of the day - a time of 1:56.89.

    Canada's Jon Montgomery slides to a gold medal with a four heat total time of 3:29.73. He trails Martins Dukurs of Latvia by 0.18s after his last run, but Dukurs's final time is 0.25s slower, giving Montgomery first place by a time of 0.07s. He is the first Canadian to win gold in Whistler.

    Canada wins gold defeating the Norwegian foursome 6-3 in the Olympic curling final. The powerhouse Norwegian team, in their celebrated flamboyant trousers were unable to overcome the incumbant Olympic curling champions. Kevin Martin’s team successfully defended their country’s gold from Turin and achieved an unbeaten 11-game run. The 6-3 victory gave Canada its 13th gold medal, matching the mark for the most by any nation at a Winter Olympics.
