    France, Belarus and Sweden show collective prowess in biathlon relays

    The French quartet won the biathlon mixed relay at PyeongChang 2018 to hand Martin Fourcade his fifth Olympic gold (and his third of these Games). The relays also produced a golden landmark for Darya Domracheva who took her personal Olympic title haul to four as she helped Belarus win the women’s event to become the most decorated female biathlete in history. Meanwhile the Swedes produced a flawless performance to overcome the Norwegians and Germans in the men’s relay.

    Japan’s speed skaters challenge Dutch supremacy

    Ireen Wüst led the Dutch charge for gold in the individual women’s speed skating events at PyeongChang 2018, taking her career tally of Olympic medals to 11, a record for both sexes. Japan’s finest matched the Dutch step for step, however, as Nao Kodaira, Nana Takagi and the pursuit team all made visits to the top of the podium.

    Fourcade shares biathlon limelight with Boe and Peiffer

    The favourite to win all four men’s individual biathlon events at PyeongChang 2018, France’s Martin Fourcade had to be content with a pair of golds. His main rival, Norway’s Johannes Thingnes Boe, also gave a mixed performance, the highlight of which was a stunning victory in the 20km individual, while Germany’s Arnd Peiffer topped the podium in the sprint.

    Sharing the golden spoils

    Among the many highlights of PyeongChang 2018 was the heart-stopping conclusion to the two-man bobsleigh, which saw German duo Friedrich and Thorsten Margis and Canada’s Justin Kripps and Alexander Kopacz record identical times over the four runs (3 minutes, 16.86 seconds) to share top spot on the podium. In doing so they became only the ninth joint gold medallists in Olympic Winter Games history. We cast a glance back in time at the other occasions when the gold medals have been shared.

    Belarus take women’s biathlon 4x6km relay gold

    Darya Domracheva skied a perfect final leg to claim the women’s biathlon 4x6km relay gold for Belarus at PyeongChang 2018 on Thursday 22 February. Their winning time at the Alpensia Biathlon Centre was one hour, 12 minutes and 3.4 seconds.
