Miga, the sea bear (Vancouver 2010 Mascot)

Miga is a sea bear inspired by the legends of the First Nations people of the north-west coast of Canada. One of the favourite themes of these legends is transformation, which represents the connection and kinship between animals, humans and spirits. Miga is in fact the product of one such transformation: she is half killer whale, half bear. Legend has it that when a killer whale leaves the sea, it turns into a bear. ©IOC Nora Rupp
