    IOC President Thomas Bach has arrived in Rio de Janeiro ahead of the one-year-to-go celebrations for the Olympic Games Rio de Janeiro 2016. Bach’s first appointment was to meet around 30 local Olympians and young athletes. They played beach football and volleyball, had a walk along the shore of the Atlantic, and even played a bit of rugby, which will be making its return to the Olympic fold next year in Rio de Janeiro.

    Arriving at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, Liu Xang was a contender for a medal at the 2004 Olympics, although no one expected him to win the gold.   Yet when it came to the final, Liu’s technique was near-perfect. He barely touched the sixth hurdle and cleared all the others cleanly, powering to a victory of almost three metres. And his time – 12.91 seconds – equalled the 11 –year-old world record.   That performance made Liu the first Chinese man to win an Olympic gold medal in athletics.

    The Chinese duo, Meng Guanliang and Yang Wenjun, delight the crowd by claiming their second straight Olympic gold in C2 500m. Meng and Yang make a strong start, crossing the 250m mark with a half boat length advantage. They finish in 1:41.025 closely followed by the Russian pair, who receive the silver medal in 1:41.282.     Deng Yaping overcame her small stature (1.5 m) to dominate table tennis, now she's considered one of the greatest players in the history of the sport.     Xiaoyu Yu (CHN) and Yang Jin (CHN) were beaming with satisfaction after their Pairs Short Programme at the Innsbruck 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games. With a score of 51.79 points, they came first in the event, with Russian duo Lina Fedorova and Maxim Miroshkin in second place on 49.32 points. A smiling Jin said he and his partner had "skated extremely well today, did everything perfect".
