    Teams USA and OAR take ice hockey golds

    After losing to Canada in the last two women’s ice hockey finals in 2010 and 2014, and without a title since the inaugural women’s competition way back in 1998, the US team finally got the better of their North American neighbours in a five-goal thriller at the Gangneung Hockey Centre. Meanwhile, the men’s competition culminated in an even more dramatic contest between the Olympic Athlete from Russia (OAR) team and surprise finalists Germany, with the former coming from behind to claim a golden goal winner.

    USA win shootout to claim women’s ice hockey gold

    The USA held their nerve against neighbours and old rivals Canada to win a dramatic shootout 3-2 in the women’s ice hockey gold medal match at PyeongChang 2018 on Thursday 22 February. In doing so, the Americans secured their first Olympic title in the event since the inaugural competition at Nagano 1998. Played at the Gangneung Hockey Centre, the final had ended 2-2 in normal time, with overtime failing to separate two very well matched sides.

    Canada and USA set to resume rivalry in women’s ice hockey final

    Canadian comeback queens stun USA to retain their Olympic ice hockey crown

    Marie-Philip Poulin was Canada’s heroine in the women’s ice hockey gold medal match, as the defending champions overturned a 2-0 deficit to clinch a 3-2 victory at the Bolshoi Ice Dome. The forward scored an equaliser 54 seconds from time, before grabbing a golden goal winner in one of the most dramatic climaxes ever witnessed in an Olympic final.

    Sochi 2014, Day 13: What’s on this Thursday?

    As the men’s ski cross unfolds through the morning at Rosa Khutor, the RusSki Gorki Jumping Centre will be hosting the Nordic combined men’s team large hill/4x5km relay. The women’s curling competition reaches its denouement with the bronze- and gold-medal matches, while over at the Bolshoi Ice Dome there are also medals up for grabs in the women’s ice hockey. Back at the Mountain Cluster, the world’s top female freestyle skiers will be in action as women’s ski halfpipe makes its Olympic debut. Then at the Iceberg Skating Palace, the women’s figure skating will bring the curtain down on Day 13 with the eagerly anticipated individual free programme.

    Wins for North American favourites in ice hockey openers

    The USA beat Finland 3-1 in the opening game of the Sochi Olympic women's hockey tournament on Saturday. Hilary Knight scored after just 53 seconds, while Kelli Stack and Alex Carpenter scored second period goals for the Americans, who out-shot the Finns 43-15 in front of a crowd of 4,135 at the Shayba Arena.
