    The reverse of this medal features a representation of the laurel crown awarded to Olympic champions of the Games in Antiquity, together with the logo of the Montreal Games. This logo, designed by Canadian graphic artist Georges Huel, is composed of the five Olympic rings topped by a podium with rounded edges. This podium can also be seen as a stylised representation of the letter “M” for Montreal ©IOC

    The obverse of the winner’s medal produced for the Olympic Games in Montreal features a design by Tuscan artist Giuseppe Cassioli. The motif, a Victory holding a laurel crown seated in front of a representation of the Colosseum in Rome, has appeared on the obverse of all the winners’ medals awarded at Summer Games since 1928, with the exception of Barcelona 1992, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 ©IOC

    Summer Games Montreal 1976 Medal

    On the obverse, the traditional goddess of victory, holding a palm in her left hand and a winner’s crown in her right. A design used since the 1928 Games in Amsterdam, created by Florentine artist Giuseppe Cassioli (ITA - 1865-1942) and chosen after a competition organised by the International Olympic Committee in 1921. For these Games, the figure of victory is accompanied by the specific inscription: “XXIe Olympiade Montréal 1976”. The reverse was designed as intentionally bare. It comprises a stylized laurel crown, symbol of victory since the Games of Antiquity, and the emblem of the 1976 Games in Montréal.
