    Japan’s speed skaters challenge Dutch supremacy

    Ireen Wüst led the Dutch charge for gold in the individual women’s speed skating events at PyeongChang 2018, taking her career tally of Olympic medals to 11, a record for both sexes. Japan’s finest matched the Dutch step for step, however, as Nao Kodaira, Nana Takagi and the pursuit team all made visits to the top of the podium.

    Japanese women set new Olympic record on way to speed skating team pursuit gold

    Japan overpowered the Dutch reigning champions in the final of the women’s speed skating team pursuit at PyeongChang 2018, claiming gold in an Olympic record time of two minutes 53.89 seconds at Gangneung Oval on Wednesday 21 February.

    Today at PyeongChang 2018: Wednesday 14 February

    Snow sports take centre stage on the seventh day of competition at PyeongChang 2018, as Olympic champions are crowned in the women’s 15km individual in biathlon, the normal hill/10 km in Nordic combined and the men’s snowboard halfpipe final. On the ice, gold medals will be awarded in the men’s doubles in luge and the women’s 1,000m in speed skating.

    Today at PyeongChang 2018: Monday 12 February

    Seven gold medals are up for grabs on what promises to be an action-packed day. Both male and female biathletes will go for glory in the pursuit; while the figure skating team event reaches its conclusion in Gangneung. The freestyle skiers will battle it out in the men’s moguls final, while the destiny of the gold medal in the women’s snowboard slopestyle will also be decided. Back in Gangneung, the spotlight shines on the women’s 1,500m speed skating, and the Alpensia Ski Jumping Centre will see the culmination of the second ever women’s Olympic ski jumping competition.
