    Hirscher and Shiffrin lead the way in Alpine skiing’s technical events

    Making the headlines in the Alpine skiing technical events at PyeongChang 2018 was Austria’s Marcel Hirscher, who landed the men’s combined and giant slalom titles, and the USA’s Mikaela Shiffrin, who added giant slalom gold to the slalom crown she won at Sochi 2014 before taking silver in the women’s combined behind Switzerland’s Michelle Gisin. Swedish skiers excelled in the slalom events, as Frida Hansdotter won the women’s and Andre Myhrer the men’s, while the inaugural mixed team event went to Switzerland.

    Men’s freestyle skiers fly high at Phoenix Snow Park

    Canadian moguls master Mikael Kingsbury finally ended his quest for Olympic gold, while the USA’s David Wise retained his halfpipe crown. Norway’s Øystein Braaten reigned supreme in the slopestyle, another Canadian, Brady Leman prevailed in the ski cross and Oleksandr Abramenko won the aerials to give Ukraine just its third ever Winter Olympic gold.

    Curling golds for Canada, USA and Sweden

    Kaitlyn Lawes and John Morris of Canada were curling’s first gold medal winners at PyeongChang 2018, winning the inaugural Olympic mixed doubles title. They were followed to the top of the podium by the US rink in the men’s competition and Sweden in a women’s competition, in which the exploits of the host nation’s rink gripped the world.

    Germany sweep the board in Nordic combined

    Germany’s flagbearer at the Opening Ceremony, Eric Frenzel set the tone for his country’s Nordic combined athletes as he won gold in the individual normal hill/10km. That was followed by a memorable clean sweep in the individual large hill/10km, as Johannes Rydzek, Fabian Riessle and Frenzel took gold, silver and bronze respectively. The three men then joined up with Vinzenz Geiger to produce a confident win in the team large hill/4x5km.

    Switzerland win gold in inaugural Alpine skiing team event

    Switzerland has won the first running of the Alpine skiing team event at an Olympic Winter Games, defeating Austria 3-1 to take the gold medal at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre on Saturday 24 February.

    Germany cruise to another Nordic combined gold

    Germany made it three Nordic combined gold medals out of three at PyeongChang 2018, with the quartet of Vinzenz Geiger, Fabian Reissle, Eric Frenzel and Johannes Rydzek easing to victory in the in the men’s team large hill/4x5km event, held at the Alpensia Ski Jumping Centre and Alpensia Cross-Country Centre on Thursday 22 February.

    Surprise gold for Myhrer as favourites fade in men’s slalom

    Andre Myhrer of Sweden collected a surprise gold at PyeongChang 2018 after pre-event favourites Marcel Hirscher (AUT) and Henrik Kristoffersen (NOR) stumbled in the Alpine skiing men’s slalom competition at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre on Thursday 22 February.
