    Martinod all set for Olympic swansong

    Audacious Bowman skis straight and true to win maiden skis halfpipe gold

    US freestyle skier Maddie Bowman won the first ever women's Olympic skiing halfpipe gold, scoring an impressive 89.00 points with her second run to edge out France's Marie Martinod (85.40). Japan's Ayana Onozuka (83.20) took bronze.

    Sharpe from the start in women’s ski halfpipe

    Cassie Sharpe (CAN) needed just two runs in the freestyle ski halfpipe, landing in the gold-medal spot after each. French veteran Marie Martinod took silver at PyeongChang 2018 on 20 February. Brita Sigourney led the US trio of finalists with her bronze medal.

    Freestyle skiers put PyeongChang halfpipe to the test

    The USA’s Torin Yater-Wallace and Marie Martinod of France produced dominant displays to clinch victory in the men’s and women’s halfpipe, as Bokwang Phoenix Park played host to the FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup series, in what doubled up as an official test event for PyeongChang.

    Virginie Faivre is today President of the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Lausanne 2020 Organising Committee, after being part of the project since the candidature phase. Prior to that, she had a brilliant sports career in ski half-pipe with three World Championship titles and three World Cup victories, all the while working hard to move the discipline towards total male-female equality.     Women’s freestyle skiers turn on the style at PyeongChang 2018

    France’s Perrine Laffont kicked off the women’s freestyle skiing events at PyeongChang 2018 by claiming moguls gold, before Cassie Sharpe of Canada won the halfpipe title. Sarah Hofflin and Mathilde Gremaud made it a Swiss one-two in the slopestyle and Hanna Huskova of Belarus prevailed in the aerials competition. The competition ended with Canada’s Kelsey Serwa topping the podium in ski cross.

    Today at PyeongChang 2018: Tuesday 20 February

    Figure skating gets top billing today, as ice dance pairs Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of Canada and Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron of France face off in what is sure to be a riveting free programme. This evening will also see titles awarded in the men’s individual large hill Nordic combined competition and the biathlon mixed relay on the trails of Alpensia. Elsewhere, medals are on offer in the women’s ski halfpipe and women’s short track 3,000m relay, while the women’s bobsleigh gets underway and the men’s ice hockey moves to the qualification playoffs.

    Women’s freestyle skiing: Free spirits and style queens strut their stuff

    With slopestyle and halfpipe making their full Olympic debut at Sochi 2014, freestyle skiers were out in force on the Rosa Khutor slopes.
