The first two months of 2020 saw the IOC’s inspirational Young Leaders come to the fore at both the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Lausanne 2020 and the inaugural Global Sports Week event in Paris, promoting the Olympic values and the power of sport as a global force for good.
In 124 years, from their revival by Pierre de Coubertin until this week’s decision to postpone the Olympic Games in Tokyo from 2020 to 2021, the Olympic Games had never been postponed. Today, the IOC President and the Prime Minister of Japan have concluded that the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo must be rescheduled to a date beyond 2020 but not later than summer 2021, to safeguard the health of the athletes, everybody involved in the Olympic Games and the international community.
