    The legend of Babe Didrikson

    Between 31 July and 7 August 1932, multi-talented champion Mildred “Babe” Didrikson won three medals and set three records at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles: gold in the javelin throw and the 80m hurdles, and silver in the high jump despite having tied for first place with a leap of 1.65m, after being deemed to have used an invalid technique. This unprecedented Olympic medal haul has never been repeated, and Didrikson’s performances at the Games preceded an extraordinary amateur then professional golf career.

    Tennis galore in London in 1908

    For the first time, there were two tennis tournaments at the 1908 Games in London: the first on an indoor wooden court at the Queen's Club, from 6 to 11 May, and the second on the grass of Wimbledon exactly two months later, from 6 to 11 July, finishing today 111 years ago. While Major Ritchie occupied every step of the podium on both surfaces, and Arthur Gore won the men’s indoor singles and doubles titles, Dorothea Lambert Chambers added Olympic gold to an exceptional career on grass.

    Rio 2016 - Day 10: Drama in the men’s pole vault and the women’s beam!

    Relive the competitions of Monday 15 August 2016 in Rio on olympic.org. The athletics in the evening was marked by David Rudisha’s double in the 800m, Shaunae Miller’s dive at the finish of the 400m, and the incredible win by Thiago Braz Da Silva in the pole vault. Simone Biles came to grief on the beam and handed the title to Sanne Wevers.
