    Rio 2016 - Day 16: The final fireworks!

    Olympic.org is giving you the chance to relive the final day of the Rio 2016 Games – Sunday 21 August 2016. The American men’s basketball team concluded the proceedings by winning the 306th and last gold medal, at the end of an exciting final against Serbia. Denmark surprised everyone by beating France in the men’s handball; the Brazilian volleyball players delighted the home crowd at the Maracanãzinho; Estelle Mossely and Tony Yoka were boxing’s golden pair; Russia maintained its rhythmic gymnastics supremacy; Nino Schurter finally triumphed in the MTB; and Eliud Kipchoge did the same in the marathon!

    Brazil’s golden girl looks back in wonder at the past 12 months

    “Everything has changed” in the past year, according to Rafaela Silva. It was 12 months ago to the day that the hometown girl, born and raised in Cidade de Deus, one of Rio de Janeiro’s most infamous favelas, lit up the Olympic Games Rio 2016 by winning Brazil’s first gold medal.
