    More Olympic joy for Jernberg

    Sweden’s Sixten Jernberg had been the most successful athlete at Cortina d’Ampezzo 1956, featuring on every single one of the men’s cross country podiums. As well as gold in the 50km, he had taken silvers in the 30km and 15km and bronze in the 4x10km relay.

    Hakulinen hits the heights

    Finland’s Veikko Hakulinen was already a double Olympic cross-country skiing champion and four-time medallist by the time he arrived in Squaw Valley. The first of those gold medals had come at Oslo 1952 in the 50km, a distance at which he also collected silver four years later in Cortina d’Ampezzo (ITA), where he won his second Olympic title in the 30km to go with a second silver in the 4x10km relay.
