    IOC President holds minute of silence for Nelson Mandela

    At the start of today’s joint International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board meeting with the Executive Council of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), IOC President Thomas Bach today called for a minute of silence to coincide with the memorial service for Nelson Mandela in South Africa this morning.

    IOC President asks NOCs worldwide to honour Nelson Mandela

    International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach today called on all 204 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) around the world to honour Nelson Mandela by flying their flags at half-mast on the day of his funeral, Sunday 15 December.  The former President of South Africa will be buried next Sunday following a week-long series of memorials to remember his life.
