    A previous Olympic athlete and international champion, Leontien Zijlaard-van Moorsel returned to the Olympic Games in Sydney 2000 after fighting against an eating disorder. And her comeback was simply one of the most amazing performances ever seen in Olympic women’s cycling.   She began by breaking the world record in the semifinals of the pursuit and taking the gold medal in the final. During the points race, she moved up from a fifth place in the final sprint to the silver medal.   When Zijlaard-van Moorsel switched to the road, she won the road time trial. And finally, in an exciting road race that ended with a photo-finish contest to define the silver and bronze medalists, Leontien Zijlaard-van Moorsel won the Olympic gold medal.
