NADIA COMANECI OF ROMANIA AT THE
1976: Nadia Comaneci of Romania stands beside the balance beam during the Montreal Olympic Games in 1976. Comaneci was the first gymnast to achieve perfection in the Olympic arena, scoring a maximum ten points on the asymmetrical bars in the 1976 Gamesin Montreal and helping her country to the silver medal in the team event. Her aptitude for the sport was spotted when she was only six years old. Altogether she won nine Olympic medals, five of them gold. She retired in 1981 and went to live in the USAeight years later.
