    Richard Norris Williams narrowly avoided having both legs amputated after jumping into frozen water during the sinking of the Titanic on 15 April 1912.  Following his rescue, the American went on to enjoy a highly successful tennis career, the highlight of which was a mixed doubles gold with Hazel Hotchkiss Wightman at the Olympic Games Paris 1924.

    PyeongChang opens first new venue in Gangneung

    The Gangneung Ice Arena has been officially opened ahead of the ISU Short Track World Cup event this weekend, which will serve as a test event for PyeongChang. In addition to short track, the 12,000-capacity venue, which took two and a half years to complete, will also host the figure skating competitions in 2018.
