    Marie-Laure Brunet was one of the pillars of the French biathlon team until the end of her career in 2014. She won two Olympic medals in Vancouver in 2010, and today puts her experience to good use as a corporate well-being and performance consultant. An Athlete Role Model at the Lausanne 2020 YOG, Marie-Laure Brunet tells us how much she will enjoy sharing her experiences with the young athletes competing next January.

    Environment and development of ski resorts

    The construction of snow resorts in Krasnaya Polyana raised concerns over its impacts on the UNESCO World Heritage Site Western Caucasus. Responding to these concerns, the IOC worked with the Organising Committee to revisit the initial placement of some of the venues in the Mountain Cluster, namely the Olympic Village; bobsleigh, skeleton and luge track; a cross-country ski and biathlon complex, and a number of infrastructure facilities.

    At the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games, Ole Einar Bjoerndalen was determined to be in his best shape for the biathlon. Seeking out meaningful practice, he entered the 30km cross-country skiing race and came close to a medal, finishing sixth. Bjoerndalen won gold medals in every biathlon race at Salt Lake City, four in all. Prior to 2002, no biathlete had ever earned more than two gold medals at a single Olympic Winter Games.
