    Despite having its schedule tightened by the impending threat of Typhoon Hagibis, the Tokyo 2020 test event for BMX racing was held successfully at the Ariake Urban Sports Park on Friday 11 October.

    Maris Strombergs of Latvia won the gold medal in the men's Olympic BMX final, holding off American BMX stars Mike Day and Donny Robinson for the title. Strombergs took control from the start and then remained in the lead the whole way, claiming the first-ever men's BMX Olympic gold medal.

Reigning world champion Strombergs, takes the lead from the very beginning finishing in 36.190 seconds, followed by American Mike Day who settles for silver and Donnhy Robinson finishes third to take the bronze medal for USA.
