    India’s first woman to win an Olympic medal – Karnam Malleswari – Weightlifiting

    At the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, weightlifter Karnam Malleswari marked her place in Olympic and Indian sports history. As she lifted 110 kg in the “snatch” and 130 kg in the “clean and jerk” for a total of 240 kg, she took the bronze medal and became India’s first woman to win an Olympic medal.

Islam-Beka Albiev of the Russian Federation wins gold in Greco-Roman wrestling. Albiev scores first, taking the period one and dominates the second period to win the match.     In October 2016, Andrei RYBAKOU of Belarus, competing in the Men's 85kg Weightlifting event, in which he ranked 2nd and for which he was awarded the silver medal, has been disqualified from the Games of the XXIX Olympiad. Lu Yong wins the 85kg Olympic title after clearing a total of 394 kg. Tigran Matirosyan takes the bronze medal home. With this win, Lu Yong claims China's 8th weightlifting gold medal in the games, and China's first gold in the heavyweight categories.
