    Rio 2016 - Day 16: The final fireworks!

    Olympic.org is giving you the chance to relive the final day of the Rio 2016 Games – Sunday 21 August 2016. The American men’s basketball team concluded the proceedings by winning the 306th and last gold medal, at the end of an exciting final against Serbia. Denmark surprised everyone by beating France in the men’s handball; the Brazilian volleyball players delighted the home crowd at the Maracanãzinho; Estelle Mossely and Tony Yoka were boxing’s golden pair; Russia maintained its rhythmic gymnastics supremacy; Nino Schurter finally triumphed in the MTB; and Eliud Kipchoge did the same in the marathon!

    Records and firsts aplenty in Rio 2016 men’s weightlifting competition

    Colombia’s Oscar Figueroa and Uzbekistan’s Ruslan Nurudinov became the first men from their countries to win weightlifting golds at Rio 2016, while China and Iran’s lifters collected two golds apiece and Georgia won two medals for the first time in any Olympic event in the heaviest category.

    Weightlifting world record for Rahimov, as China’s Xiang also takes gold

    Kazakhstan's Nijat Rahimov smashed the clean and jerk world record by 4kg to land men’s 77kg weightlifting gold at Rio 2016 on 10 August, while China’s Xiang Yanmei topped the podium in the women’s 69kg, an event that saw Egyptian lifter Sara Ahmed score a notable first for her country.

    Girl power wows the fans in Nanjing

    The women’s weightlifting competition at Nanjing 2014 was graced by some great displays of strength and technique. After Jiang Huihua had won China’s first medal of the YOG, Duanganksorn Chaidee and Rattanaphon Pakkaratha scored a double for Thailand, while Chinese Taipei’s Chiang Nien-Hsin and Sara Ahmed of Egypt also struck gold.
