    American swimmer Mark Spitz on the top step of the podium for the 100m butterfly. In all, Spitz won no fewer than seven gold medals at the Olympic Games in Munich: in the 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 4x100m freestyle relay, 4x100m medley and the 4x200m freestyle relay.
