    The legend of Sir Steve Redgrave, the only rower to have won five gold medals

    Only one rower has won five gold medals at five consecutive editions of the Olympic Games. From Los Angeles 1984 to Sydney 2000, in various boats, on each occasion Sir Steve Redgrave stepped up onto the highest level of the podium. He ended his career on a high at the age of 38, on 23 September 2000, when he won his last title with the British coxless four.

    Marin Potrille wins last gold on a busy day in women’s freestyle wrestling

    Argentina’s Linda Marilina Machuca was defeated by Cuba’s Milaimys de la Cari Marin Potrille in the women’s freestyle 73kg gold medal match, the last of five women’s freestyle events on day 7 at the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018.

    Rio 2016 - Day 10: Drama in the men’s pole vault and the women’s beam!

    Relive the competitions of Monday 15 August 2016 in Rio on olympic.org. The athletics in the evening was marked by David Rudisha’s double in the 800m, Shaunae Miller’s dive at the finish of the 400m, and the incredible win by Thiago Braz Da Silva in the pole vault. Simone Biles came to grief on the beam and handed the title to Sanne Wevers. Charlotte Dujardin’s dazzling display secured her a second consecutive dressage title; and Cuban Greco-Roman wrestler Mijain Lopez won his third.

    Taekwondo firsts aplenty at Rio 2016

    The Rio 2016 taekwondo competition produced several ground-breaking achievements, with Ahmad Abughaush of Jordan and Cheick Sallah Cissé of Ivory Coast winning their countries’ first ever Olympic gold medals and Zhao Shuai scoring China’s maiden men’s gold in the sport, as did Radik Isaev for Azerbaijan. In the women’s events, Iran’s KIma Alizadeh and Egypt’s Hedaya Wahba scored notable firsts of their own, while Great Britain’s Jade Jones was the only fighter to retain a title.
