After Salma Abdelmaksoud’s success in the women’s event a day earlier, compatriot Ahmed Elgendy earned Egypt a second modern pentathlon title on Sunday 14 October at the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018. The current Junior and Youth World Champion added the YOG title to his collection thanks to a powerful performance in the men’s individual laser-run. Russia’s Egor Gromadskiii had to settle for silver and Frenchman Ugo Fleurot bronze.

On the final night of action at the Natatorium, Russian duo Kliment Kolesnikov and Andrei Minakov won the 200m breastroke and 100m freestyle respectively to take their personal hauls to six golds apiece.

Seventy years after her grandmother swam in the London 1948 Olympic Games, New Zealand swimmer Gina Galloway has taken up the torch to represent her country at Buenos Aires 2018 - and in the same discipline.

There were familiar faces on the podium at the Natatorium on day five of the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018, as Russian duo Andrei Minakov and Daniil Markov celebrated a fifth medal each, and Australia’s Kaylee McKeown grabbed a gold, her fourth medal.

Samantha Bello of Peru has swimming in her blood. The 15-year-old’s father, Juan Carlos, was one of the finest swimmers the country has ever produced, and good enough to finish fourth in the men’s 200m individual medley at Mexico City 1968. 

Russia’s Kliment Kolesnikov and Hungary’s Kristof Milak made the headlines in the Natatorium on Monday 8 October, as they claimed their second swimming golds of the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018.

Day three of the swimming competition at the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018 was one of Eastern European domination, as swimmers from Russia, Hungary, Moldova and Czech Republic snared the golds.
