    In one of the greatest 10,000m races in Olympic history, Haile Gebrselassie wins gold by a fingertip, defending his Olympic title from Atlanta. With a few meters to go, Gebrselassie powers to the finish line surpassing Paul Tergat in the last seconds of the race, winning by just 0.09 seconds. With this win, Gebrselassie becomes the 3rd person to defend a 10,000m title.     Haile Gbrselassie Defends 10000m Olympic Title

    When Haile Gebrselassie was a little child, he used to run 10 km to school everyday and another 10km back home. Haile became one of the most sucessful long distance runners of all time. At the 1996 Games, Gebrselassie claimed his first Olympic gold medal in the 10000m event, he crossed the finish line in 27:07.34, setting a new Olympic record.
