    Rio 2016 trap and skeet events crown five new champions

    The five trap and skeet events at Rio 2016 threw up plenty of suspense and produced some notable champions, from Australia’s Catherine Skinner, the youngest of the lot at 26, to the Independent Olympic Athlete Abdullah Al-Rashidi, the oldest at 52. Also making the headlines was evergreen American shooter Kimberly Rhode, who won an individual medal for the sixth Games in a row, an Olympic record.

    Records and firsts aplenty in Rio 2016 men’s weightlifting competition

    Colombia’s Oscar Figueroa and Uzbekistan’s Ruslan Nurudinov became the first men from their countries to win weightlifting golds at Rio 2016, while China and Iran’s lifters collected two golds apiece and Georgia won two medals for the first time in any Olympic event in the heaviest category.

    Male gymnasts break new ground in Rio

    The Rio 2016 men’s artistic gymnastics competition produced plenty of drama and highlights. Kōhei Uchimura set the tone by leading Japan to victory in the team event and then winning individual all-around, while Great Britain’s Max Whitlock won two titles of his own in the apparatus finals and Germany’s Fabian Hambüchen brought the curtain down on his career with gold in the horizontal bar.
