    Snowboarding legend and superstar Shaun White (USA) delights the crowd landing the first ever Double McTwist 1260 (Tomahawk). The “flying tomato”, as he is known in the snowboarding world, secured the Olympic snowboarding Gold Medal after his first run, but beat that score on his victory run scoring 48.4 out of 50. Teammate Scotty Lago won the Bronze with a 42.8, and Finland’s Peetu Piiroinen won the Olympic snowboarding half-pipe Silver Medal with an outstanding performance.

    Simon Ammann of Switzerland soars to his second Olympic gold medal in Vancouver with a two jump total of 283.6 points in the breathtaking individual large hill event. Adam Malysz of Poland and Gregor Schlierenzauer of Austria gain 269.4 points and 262.2 points respectively, but they are no match for Ammann. He cements his dominance and becomes the first ski jumper to win four individual gold medals adding to the two gold medals he won in Salt Lake City.

    Marit Bjorgen of Norway skis to victory in the Women’s Individual Sprint with a time of 3:39.2. The skiers navigate their way through qualifiers, quarterfinals and semifinals to set up a field of six competitors for the final. Polish star Justyna Kowalczyk and injured Petra Majdic of Slovenia aren’t strong enough to hold off Bjorgen through the final corner and straight away. Marit Bjorgen wins by a full second.

    Irene Wust of the Netherlands powers to win gold and set a new world record in the women’s 1500m speed skating. Japan’s Nao Kodaira has what it takes to post a world record time of 1:58.20 early on but the ice is fast and Martina Sablikova of the Czech Republic clocks a time of 1:57.96, only to be bettered by Canadian Kristina Groves with 1:57.14. In the last grouping, Wust lays down the final world record of the day - a time of 1:56.89.
