We’re going back in time, to Rio 2016! Can you remember it? During the first day of competition already full of achievement and emotions, American shooter Virginia Thrasher won the first gold medal of the Rio Games; swimming records were already being broken; Belgium’s Greg Van Avermaet won the road cycling event; and judo, weightlifting, fencing and shooting saw their first Olympic champions on Carioca soil.

China’s lifters won three golds and Thailand’s two as Asian athletes swept the board in the women’s weightlifting competition at Rio 2016, with the two other golds on offer going to Hsu Shu-ching of Chinese Taipei and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s Rim Jong-Sim, who claimed the second Olympic title of her career.

London 2012 silver medallist Oscar Figueroa went one better in Rio, winning gold in the men’s 62kg category to become Colombia’s first Olympic weightlifting champion.

Thailand's Sopita Tanasan won gold, with Indonesia’s Sri Wahyuni Agustiani taking silver and Hiromi Miyake from Japan completing the podium on bronze.
