    Closing fireworks for Ole Einar Bjørndalen at Sochi 2014

    On 19 February 2014 in Sochi, Ole Einar Bjørndalen was the artisan of Norway’s victory in the first ever Olympic biathlon mixed relay. Having already won the sprint ten days earlier, he took his eighth Olympic title and thirteenth medal, making him one of the greatest Olympic winter athletes of all time.

    France, Belarus and Sweden show collective prowess in biathlon relays

    The French quartet won the biathlon mixed relay at PyeongChang 2018 to hand Martin Fourcade his fifth Olympic gold (and his third of these Games). The relays also produced a golden landmark for Darya Domracheva who took her personal Olympic title haul to four as she helped Belarus win the women’s event to become the most decorated female biathlete in history. Meanwhile the Swedes produced a flawless performance to overcome the Norwegians and Germans in the men’s relay.

    Rio 2016 - Day 16: The final fireworks!

    Olympic.org is giving you the chance to relive the final day of the Rio 2016 Games – Sunday 21 August 2016. The American men’s basketball team concluded the proceedings by winning the 306th and last gold medal, at the end of an exciting final against Serbia. Denmark surprised everyone by beating France in the men’s handball; the Brazilian volleyball players delighted the home crowd at the Maracanãzinho; Estelle Mossely and Tony Yoka were boxing’s golden pair; Russia maintained its rhythmic gymnastics supremacy; Nino Schurter finally triumphed in the MTB; and Eliud Kipchoge did the same in the marathon!

    Rio 2016 mountain bike competitions produce big thrills and high drama

    Jenny Rissveds (SWE) and Nino Schurter (SUI) enjoyed convincing victories in the women’s and men’s mountain bike competitions, finishing well ahead of their rivals and providing the crowds at the Deodoro circuit with plenty of thrills along the way.

    Third time lucky as Schurter takes men’s MTB gold

    Following a silver at London 2012, and a bronze in Beijing four years earlier, Switzerland’s Nino Schurter finally ended his quest for Olympic gold, as he won the men’s mountain bike cross-country race, outsprinting defending champion Jaroslav Kulhavy of the Czech Republic. Spain’s Carlos Coloma edged out France’s Maxim Marotte for the bronze.

    Women’s biathlon: Indomitable Domracheva lands golden treble
