    Russia win double gold on a sporting day of wrestling action

    There were two wrestling golds for Russia on day 9 at the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018. Akhmedkhan Tembotov and Sergei Kozyrev dominated the 80kg and 110kg categories respectively, while Uzbekistan’s Umidjon Jalolov and Azerbaijan’s Turan Bayramov won gold in the 48kg and 65kg. However, the story of the day was USA’s Robert Howard’s sporting gesture after defeating local favourite Hernan David Almendra in the 55kg.

    Marin Potrille wins last gold on a busy day in women’s freestyle wrestling

    Argentina’s Linda Marilina Machuca was defeated by Cuba’s Milaimys de la Cari Marin Potrille in the women’s freestyle 73kg gold medal match, the last of five women’s freestyle events on day 7 at the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018.

    Buenos Aires set for twists with new events

    Six dynamic new events will be introduced at the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Buenos Aires 2018. Futsal will replace football; handball will move outside to the beach; and acrobatic gymnastics is a spectacular addition to the gymnastics programme. BMX freestyle park and kiteboarding are introduced in cycling and sailing, while the rowing is set to be a showcase of speed and power, with the course just 500m in length.

The American men’s basketball team concluded the proceedings by winning the 306th and last gold medal, at the end of an exciting final against Serbia. Denmark surprised everyone by beating France in the men’s handball; the Brazilian volleyball players delighted the home crowd at the Maracanãzinho; Estelle Mossely and Tony Yoka were boxing’s golden pair; Russia maintained its rhythmic gymnastics supremacy; Nino Schurter finally triumphed in the MTB; and Eliud Kipchoge did the same in the marathon!

    Rio 2016 - Day 14: New triple for Bolt, Germany at the summit of women’s football
