Reason He was encouraged to take up the sport due to his siblings. Growing up in Cleveland, OH, United States of America, did not allow for a lot of snowboarding, but in the winter of 2008 his family decided on a trial move to Breckenridge, Colorado, where he was able to develop his skills further. HISTORIC ACHIEVEMENT
At the 2018 Olympic Winter Games he won gold in the slopestyle at age 17 years and 227 days to become the second youngest man to win gold in an individual event at the Winter Games, after Toni Nieminen [16 years and 261 days] won gold in the individual large hill event in ski jumping in 1992. Gerard is also the first medallist at the Olympic Winter Games born after 01 January 2000, and the youngest gold medallist in any snowboard event at age 17 years and 227 days. (OIS, 11 Feb 2018)
