General
Marchei and Hotarek teamed up in 2014 and are making their Olympic debut together as a pair. They secured a quota spot for Italy ahead of the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang by finishing ninth at the 2017 World Championships in Helsinki.

Both skaters had successful careers before they began competing as a pair. Marchei represented Italy in single skating and was ranked 11th in the ladies event at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. Hotarek and his previous partner Stefania Berton won bronze in pairs at the 2013 European Championships and finished 11th at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. Hotarek was born in the Czech Republic and received Italian citizenship in 2010.

Marchei and Hotarek have competed at three editions of the world championships together, achieving their best finish of ninth in 2017. They have also represented Italy at the European championships on four occasions, with a best finish of fourth in 2015.

During the 2017/18 season, they were ranked fourth at the Rostelecom Cup and fifth at the Cup of China.
