HISTORIC ACHIVEMENT
He became the first cross country skier to win three successive gold medals in the same individual event at the Olympic Winter Games, when he took gold in the 15km free at the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang. He had previously won the 15km free in 2010, and the 15km classic in 2014. His victory in Pyeongchang also made him the first male cross country skier to win the Tour de Ski and an individual Olympic gold medal in the same season. NATIONAL FIRST
He became the first Swiss cross country skier to win an Olympic gold medal when he won the 15km freestyle event at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. In 2013 he became the first Swiss cross-country skier to win a world championship gold medal, and was also the first Swiss winner of the World Cup overall title in 2009. DEVELOPMENT OF YOUNG SKIERS
