Modern pentathlon: battle for the women's medals

London - 12 August 2012: (L-R) Samantha Murray of Great Britain, Yane Marques of Brazil and Laura Asadauskaite of Lithuania shoot it out at the range in the running/shooting (the two events combined form the final of the competition), a short distance from the finish where Asadauskaite set an Olympic record (5,408 points), ahead of Murray and Marques on Day 16 – the last day – of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Modern pentathlon: David Svoboda goes for gold

London - 11 August 2012: David Svoboda of the Czech Republic runs from the shooting range, while Zhongrong Cao of China continues shooting in the combined running/shooting event that concludes the men's modern pentathlon. Svoboda could not be caught and won the gold medal with an Olympic record (5,928 points) on Day 15 of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

London - 11 August 2012: On his randomly selected horse, Fellow Van T, David Svoboda of the Czech Republic competes in the show jumping event, the third part of the men's modern pentathlon after fencing and swimming. He ended in a good place to target the medals on Day 16 – the last day – of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Modern pentathlon: Adam Marosi in the fencing competition

London - 11 August 2012: Adam Marosi of Hungary celebrates winning a bout in the fencing, the first competition in the modern pentathlon. He scored 20 ahead of the swimming, show jumping and combined running/shooting competitions, and was on form on Day 15 of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Modern pentathlon: Zhongrong Cao in the 200m swimming competition

London - 11 August 2012: Zhongrong Cao of China competes in the swimming 200m freestyle event, the second part of the men's modern pentathlon after fencing. He had one of the best times of the 36 competitors (1:58.93) which gave him 1,376 points ahead of the show jumping and combined running/shooting competitions. Zhongrong was on good form on Day 15 of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Modern pentathlon: Zhongrong Cao versus Stanislau Zhurauliou in the fencing competition

London - 11 August 2012: Fencing is the first competition in the modern pentathlon. All the athletes compete against each other. Here, Zhongrong Cao of China competes against Stanislau Zhurauliou of Belarus to rack up one of his 25 victories in this competition, ahead of the swimming, show jumping and combined running/shooting on Day 15 of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
