1976: Kornelia Ender of the German Democratic Republic takes a break during the swimming competition at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Canada. Ender became the World's greatest women swimmer in the Games of 1976 where she won four gold medals and two silver medals to add to the three she took during the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany. Her most breath taking feat came in Montreal when twenty minutes after taking the 100 metre butterfly title and equalling her own world record, she also won the 200 metres free style title in a new world mark.
