Charles de Coubertin, "Paysage désertique avec palmeraie en premier plan" (1894)

Between 1848 and 1849, Charles de Coubertin, like many of his contemporaries, undertook a voyage to the Middle East, taking in Algeria, Syria, Egypt and Jerusalem. He brought back a number of sketches and watercolours, which served as a basis for creating later works.
