Winner's medal Atlanta 1996
The obverse comprises a design by Tuscan artist Giuseppe Cassioli. This motif can be found on the obverse of all the winner’s medals presented at the Summer Games since 1928 with the exception of three special cases: Barcelona 1992, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008. However, it should be said that Cassioli’s design, created in 1928, has had its contours somewhat modernised here ©IOC

Michael Johnson (USA)
Just like Marie-José Perec (FRA) in the women’s events, US athlete Michael Johnson became Olympic champion in the 200m and 400m. The photo here was taken during the medal ceremony for the 200m
