43 Blankers Koen 1948 Olympics

1948: Fanny Blankers-Koen of Holland clears a hurdle on her way to winning the womens 100m hurdles at the 1948 Olympic Games in London. The dark-haired athlete to her left is Maureen Gardner of Great Britain who won silver medal for this event. At the age of 30 and after the deprivations of war, she became the world's most famous woman athlete in 1948 when she won four gold medals at the London Games. Between 1938 and 1951 she set world records in seven different events: at Wembley Stadium in London her victories came in the 100 metres, 200 metres, 80 metres hurdles and the sprint relay.
