Change Agent

Sharnelle Cader is a seasoned volunteer from South Africa, who has worked with various youth organisations locally and nationally, focusing on training, facilitation, advocacy, fundraising, event management and administration over the last 12 years.

After a couple years as a youth worker at the YMCA and a member of The Observatory Improvement District (OBSID) Arts, Sport, Heritage & Culture Committee, Cader graduated as a Change Agent in a global leadership development programme at the World YMCA to empower young leaders. A Subject to Citizen (S2C) Ambassador of the Africa Alliance of YMCAs, Cader has provided S2C foundational training for South Africa YMCA’s youth workers.

Cader has also served as a Youth Justice Assistant Coordinator, working with offenders from Cape Town’s Pollsmoor Prison to reduce recidivism. In 2016, she was named Deputy Programmes Coordinator for YMCA Cape Town, where she focused on the implementation and coordination of all programmes, as well as supporting, training and mentoring the team. The following year, she joined the World YMCA team as a facilitator in Portugal and graduated with a diploma in Youth Development.

Cader is continuing her volunteer career, with a current focus on developing her skills with younger children, aged three months to five years.
