Youth Olympic Games gold medalist wins diving world title

Double Youth Olympic Games gold medalist Qiu Bo continued his domination of the sport of diving this weekend by convincingly winning the senior World Championship title in Shanghai, China.

Clearly thriving off the support of a home crowd, China’s Qiu Bo totaled 585.45 points in the six-dive 10-metre platform final on Sunday - a whopping 41 points ahead of silver medalist David Boudia from the USA.

The 18-year-old diving sensation, who won gold in both the 3-metre springboard and 10-metre platform at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games, is now hot favourite to claim the top spot at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

However, he will not be the only former YOG diver hoping to make his mark in London next year. The UK’s Tom Daley, who finished fifth at the World Championships, also has his sights set on the podium.

Good luck to all YOG competitors hoping to qualify for London 2012. We are behind you!
