Youth Olympic Games athletes prepare for Sochi 2014 with 100 days to go!
With the ice hockey season warming up and the Alpine ski World Cup season officially opened in Solden, Austria last weekend, the winter sports season is well and truly upon us. In fact, we are just 100 days away from the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games!
That’s right, today marks the final straight before the world’s best 2,500 or so winter sports athletes gather in Russia to race, ski, jump, slide, sweep or skate in the competition of their lives. It promises to be a thrilling 17 days of sporting action, and we can’t wait to see some familiar faces waving the Youth Olympic Games flag.
With 100 days to go, many of our graduates from the first Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck in 2012 are working hard to qualify for their country, and have the opportunity to measure their skills against those who inspired them during last year’s Winter Youth Olympic Games such as YOG Ambassadors Lindsey Vonn (USA), Yuna Kim (KOR) and Kevin Rolland (FRA). Watch out for YOG athletes Kai Mahler (SUI), Sara Takanashi (JPN), Greta Small (AUT) and Tiril Sjåstad Christiansen (NOR) making their mark at Sochi 2014 to name just a few.
To celebrate this final countdown, we will be profiling YOG athletes over the coming months in our ‘Youth Olympic Games… The Journey Continues’ series, starting with two promising athletes from Chinese Taipei and Cyprus on their journey to Sochi, so stay tuned!
