Youngsters' and Olympians' voices heard
6th World Forum on Sport, Education and Culture
At the 6th World Forum on Sport, Education and Culture in Busan, young people provided first-hand feedback on the theme of “Sport and Education for the Now Generation”, while former athletes shared their recommendations on post-athletic life.
Manuela Di Centa, Olympic skiing champion and member of the IOC, its Athletes’ Commission and the Italian Parliament, said during her presentation in Busan, “Today, when someone asks me which of my Olympic medals is the most important for me, I reply, ‘it is not a single medal, but the path I took to get them’”.
Action plan adopted by 600 participants
The Forum concluded with the adoption of an ambitious set of initiatives in the following fields:
• Young people
• Youth Olympic Games
• Post-athletic life
• Education and culture programmes for the Organising Committees for the Olympic Games and National Olympic Committees
• Olympic Congress
London hits the right note with young people
Nick Fuller from the London 2012 Organising Committee demonstrated how the host city of the next Summer Olympic Games is reaching out to young people. He presented "Get Set", the London 2012 domestic education programme, which launched the day London received the flag during the Closing Ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.
