YOG on the Road to London 2012… talks to Viktoria Komova
As individual all-around gold medalist at the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore last year, artistic gymnast Viktoria Komova returned home to Russia to something of a hero’s welcome.
Unfortunately, her high wasn’t to last long as she suffered a severe ankle injury that would keep her out of the European Championships. But this YOG athlete was determined to overcome her obstacles.
We caught up with 16-year-old Viktoria at her training camp, where she shared with us: “You might get tired though the long trainings and the competitions, sometimes they are full of pain and tears, but never give up. This is how we have got to where we are.”
Now recovered from injury, the popular gymnast is looking like a very strong hope for the London 2012 Olympic Games and next month she will compete at the World Championships in Tokyo.
Speaking with justified confidence, Viktoria said: “I think my chances to qualify (for London 2012) and make it to Team Russia are solid. I hope everybody will support me.”
We will support you Viktoria! And all the other YOG-tastic athletes who competed at Singapore 2010 and continue to strive to be the best they can be!
